by Visa Program
Want to add a new layer of
transaction security to your Web site while ensuring against
liability on certain chargebacks? Now you can with Verified by Visa
transactions (aka Visa 3D) channeled through the ECHO payment
gateway.
We also support MasterCard’s UCAF (Universal Cardholder
Authentication Field), however currently no chargeback protections
are available under the MasterCard program.
Both UCAF and Visa 3D services allow on-line consumers to
authenticate their identity during the payment process. For
merchants who develop this capability with one of the Visa or
MasterCard authorized vendors,
ECHO can process the transaction and route the responses back
to your site.
Specific
Chargeback Protection
Beginning April 1, 2003, the Visa’s
Operating Regulations provide merchants with chargeback protection
when a cardholder disputes a 3-D Secure authenticated transaction as
an unauthorized purchase. This protection applies to the following
chargebacks:
- “T&E—Invalid
Transaction” (reason code 23)
- “Fraudulent
Mail/Phone Order Transaction” (reason code 61)
- “Cardholder
Does Not Recognize Transaction” (reason code 75)
The following types of transactions
are not protected from the chargeback liability shift related to 3-D
Secure attempted authentications:
- Commercial
Card
- Anonymous
Prepaid Card
- Transactions
conducted in new channels (e.g., mobile phone or other access
device that does not use a standard Hypertext Markup Language
(HTML) browser to process a 3-D Secure Authentication Request)
- Transactions
by merchants identified through the Global Merchant Chargeback
Monitoring Program (GMCMP), for the period of time the merchant
remains on the monitoring program report, plus three additional
months.
Note:
ECHO can serve U.S.-based businesses only.
