ECHO ANNOUNCES NAME CHANGE OF NATIONAL CHECK INFORMATION SERVICE (NCIS) TO NATIONAL CHECK NETWORK (NCN)

June 6, 2001, Agoura Hills, Calif.-- Electronic Clearing House, Inc. (NASDAQ:ECHO) announced today that it will change the name of its national negative-check writer database from National Check Information Services (NCIS) to National Check Network (NCN). The change in the name is made possible by ECHO’s acquisition of the NCN's assets, including its name, in April 2001 from National Check Network, a South Dakota-based association composed of approximately 60 collection agencies. 

“ECHO’s NCIS has over 160 member collection agencies with a database that contains over 12 million negative-check writer records. Since ECHO acquired the name of NCN, many of the 60 collection agency members of the old NCN have switched or plan to switch to the new platform, so as to gain access to the larger NCIS database and enhanced features,” stated Jane Keller, Executive Director of the new NCN. “NCN members have generated a combined database of just over 3 million records. Assuming the majority of the NCN members move to the NCIS platform in the coming months, as expected, the combined database will exceed 15 million records. The name National Check Network and the letters of NCN have been more widely publicized than NCIS, and for that reason NCN is a more recognized name in the marketplace. That’s why we decided to embrace the NCN brand going forward.” 

"With over 230 collection agencies contributing on a daily basis, NCN truly will be a national check network, covering every state in the nation," Keller concluded.
