HOW IT WORKS

Do you receive checks in the mail? Our Virtual Terminal ARC service can process them electronically, so you save time and money on paper check costs. Click here for demo.

  • Your customer completes and signs his or her check and then presents it to you at the point of sale.
  • Your clerk feeds the check through a terminal with an imager or check reader where the MICR information is captured. Or use your PC with our new Virtual Terminal check conversion service. Click here to view a demo!
  • The check is verified with the NCN® verification database. If negative information is found, the check is not accepted.
  • An authorization slip is printed for the check writer to sign, allowing the paper check to be converted into an electronic transaction.  The check is then immediately returned to the consumer stamped “void”.
  • The transaction data is electronically transferred through the ACH settlement system where funds are debited directly from the writer's checking account.
  • Settlement is made with the merchant and an ACH credit transaction deposits the purchase amount into the merchant's account within 48-72 hours.

NCN Adds Greater Fraud Protection

As you process ECHO Check Conversion transactions, the terminal first verifies the check using the account number (MICR line on check) and ID information.  The process uses the National Check Network (NCN) database, one of the top databases in the country.  NCN includes more than 23 million bad checks and more than 132 million check writers from across the U.S.   With easy-to-understand responses from NCN, ECHO Check Conversion transactions ensure that you do not accept checks with potential problems only to have them returned.
