Service Options Put You in
Control
•
Conversion Only. The check authorization message is routed to
your customer’s bank or ECHO’s check database to
determine whether the account is open. You retain the risk.
• Verification with Conversion.
Checks not verified at the bank account are given an accept or
decline decision based on access to your customer’s bank account
or to ECHO’s NCN database. You retain the risk.
• Guarantee with Conversion.
Checks are guaranteed for payment. ECHO takes all the risk.
Risk Protection Against Returned
Checks
Authorizing checks with the POS Check
service offers effective “pre-screening” of checks before you
accept them. With this check conversion service, you have a choice
of two ways to protect yourself against returned items.
Check Guarantee
With the Check Guarantee option, checks you accept for on-line
processing are “insured” against being returned unpaid. ECHO
takes all the risk against losses for all the checks authorized with
the POS Check Service, so you rest easier.
Re-initiation of Returned Items
Even without check guarantee, you still enjoy protection from
returned items. One of the key benefits of the service is the
automatic collection process that collects returned items by
“reinitiating” them up to two times.
• The first re-initiation occurs
within a few days of the returned item being received at ECHO.
• If the first re-initiation is
returned unpaid, we send a second re-initiation on the following
payday, i.e., the first or the sixteenth of the month. (Improves the
success of collecting the funds.)
Finally, if items are returned after three initiations, ECHO’s
collection department can step in and make phone calls and mail
collection letters. To do this, however, you must use an imager.
“Passive Collections” occur after an item has been returned
after three inititiations. The customer’s account number is added
to the National Check Network negative database. When the consumer
attempts to pay by check at one of the 100,000 merchants using NCN,
his check will be declined, forcing him to call us and pay off the
outstanding item.
