More Worshippers Giving Through Plastic Channels
Visa U.S.A. reports that overall transaction volume on its cards for
donations to religious organizations increased 21 percent in 2006,
to $827 million. Debit volume for donations to religious
organizations increased even more, by 35.6 percent. Bill Dobbins,
Visa's vice president of merchant services, says that many people
want to use debit cards to make payments because doing so helps them
manage their finances. "This is definitely a growing category of
payments," he notes. Many religious organizations are now accepting
recurring donations made online with cards, due to the steady flow
of revenue they provide, even in the summer when worshippers are on
vacation.
